Welcome to Your Freshman Year!
As your assistant principal, I want to welcome you to CV9! Freshman year is an exciting time full of new experiences, challenges, and opportunities. Our goal is to help you succeed academically, socially, and personally. Here are a few things to help during your first year.
Expectations & Rules
High school comes with greater responsibility and higher expectations. To help you succeed, we ask all students to:
*Follow School Rules - Respect staff, classmates, and school property. Follow the dress code and be where you are supposed to be at all times.
*Be on Time & Prepared - Arrive to class on time with the necessary materials. Being prepared sets you up for success.
*Use Technology Responsibly - Follow school policies on phone and internet use. Use devices for learning, not distractions.
*Demonstrate Respect & Kindness - Treat others with kindness, whether it’s classmates, teachers, or school staff. We expect all students to contribute to a positive school culture.
Caring for Others
Our school community thrives when students look out for one another.
*Be Inclusive - Make an effort to include new people in conversations and activities.
*Support Your Peers - If you see someone struggling, offer a kind word or assistance.
*Speak Up If you witness bullying or unkind behavior, report it to a teacher or administrator. We are here to help!
Study Habits for Success
Freshman year sets the foundation for your academic future. Develop good study habits early:
*Stay Organized - Use a planner or digital calendar to track assignments and deadlines.
*Manage Your Time - Set aside dedicated time for studying and avoid last-minute cramming.
*Ask for Help – Do not wait until you are overwhelmed. Teachers, counselors, and tutors are here to help.
*Minimize Distractions - Find a quiet place to study and put your phone away when working.
Getting Involved: Clubs, Activities & Sports
Being part of the school community makes high school more enjoyable and rewarding. Consider joining:
*Clubs & Organizations - Whether you are interested in student government, music, drama, robotics, or community service, there is a club for you!
*Sports Teams - Try out for a sport, whether it’s football, basketball, soccer, or something new like cross-country or wrestling.
*Fine Arts & Performing Groups - Join the band, choir, or theater program to develop creative talents.
*Volunteer & Leadership Opportunities - Get involved in peer mentoring, student council, or community service groups.
Final Advice: Freshman year is about growth, learning, and new experiences. Be open to trying new things, make smart choices, and don’t be afraid to ask for guidance when you need it. You are not alone; our school community is here to support you!
Welcome to high school. Make it a great year!
